This site-specific work is largely inspired by it's location; a concrete deck is known to be a favorite hanging out spot for people to relax around the lake. Naturally, I wanted to make sure that this installation would enhance the lake-side activities. I was concerned with not obstructing the people's activities and instead to enhance them. I decided to design a piece that would “wrap” around natural conditions of the site; which is a pathway for people to walk on. Inspired by the paper folds of origami, the challenge for me was to translate the paper-based technique to one that is built and can withstand weather conditions. The piece will double up as a canopy for festival-goers to rest, chat or have a meal. At night, it will light up like a lantern, glowing amongst the backdrop of the lake.
